RotoLab 2010 FAQ

Support:  Support questions are answered at lunch time and every evening around 6:00 pm until midnight and throughout the day on the weekends.  The e-mail address for questions is info@rotolab.com, not the sales account.

Move Quickly between screens:   To move quickly between the Rosters screen and the Draft screen (the two most commonly used screens during the draft), click anywhere in the gray totals area just above the players on the team rosters.  On the draft screen, click on the past year's stats of the currently selected player in the upper middle of the screen.

Slow Redraw on long player lists (like the Cheat Sheet):  Even on slower computers by now day standards the program is turning out the information almost instantaneously.  What is likely happening is you are on XP and have ClearType turned on.  This makes TrueType Fonts like Arial look really good, but can really tax a slow system with a slow video card.  You can either turn off Clear Type or choose the Sans Serif font inside of RotoLab which is not a TrueType font.  To turn off ClearType, right-click on an open spot on your Desktop, choose Properties, choose Appearance and then click on the Effects button and turn it off.  You will notice the benefits of ClearType more so on LCD screens as opposed to regular monitors.

Saving Data: RotoLab saves all critical information after each stat change or move.

Backing Up data:   Every few days, after you start RotoLab and before you load a league, click FILE / BACKUP and just save a backup copy right there in the RotoLab folder, just as a precaution.  The system maintains 20 restore points as a backup as well, but you should backup to a floppy or a key drive (or manually copy the backup file to a floppy) every week or so.  It never fails, I always get a couple of users each year that have their hard drive crash with no backups off the computer.  Hard drives are mechanical devices and they do fail, so backup to floppy every so often and avoid the hassle.

Projections Availability: Projections are updated twice a week in February and 3 times a week in March.  The 25 man roster flags will set as each announces it's final rosters in late March.

Adding and Deleting players: On the Editor screen press the [Insert] to add a player.  To delete a player, hold the [CTRL] key down and press the [Delete] key.  On deleting players, I would advise against this. All MLB players are needed for the historical valuation calculations and you might also delete a player that is on a roster in another league you are in.   If your goal is just to clear out some of the clutter of the lower-level players, just use one of  the filters like Playing time or status and filter out the unwanted players so that you don't have to wade through them.

Player Flags List:   Every player in the RotoLab database can be added to one of the 10 User lists.  These list are used in reports and highlighting on the Cheat Sheet  This is done on either the Draft (Flag Mode) or Editor screens.  On the Cheat Sheet, clicking on any of the buttons under the player will highlight all players belonging to the selected list.  Different list can be highlighted at the same time.

Screen cut off on right:  Your computer screen resolution is likely set to 800x600 resolution or 1024x768 with 125 DPI setting (96 DPI is normal).  You can either change your Screen settings or if you want to keep your computer exactly as it is, you can shift to a smaller display in RotoLab.  Go to an individual screen like the Player Editor and press the F12 key.  Here you can change a number of settings to meet your needs / preferences.

Trading Draft Picks:   To trade a draft pick go to the Picks screen and grab a pick by clicking on the pick and holding the left mouse button down and dragging the pick on top of another pick.  This will swap the two picks.  It is the same procedure as moving and trading players on the Rosters screen.
